What do you think when you hear the word ecosystem? You probably think of plants, animals and the climate of an area. But an ecosystem is so much more! Everything is interconnected, and there is an energy flow from the smallest beings all the way to the biggest ones.

For our ecosystem to thrive, we need to start by thinking of the very smallest things, all the way to the biggest things.
We will add soil that is rich in healthy bacteria, so that the microbioma starts decomposing the dead leaves as well as any animal waste!
But we also need a very tiny army, to break down things in smaller bits for the bacteria...

These eat mold, fungi, dead bugs, dead leaves, and more!
To keep the springtail cultures happy, we will sprinkle a little bit of yeast every few days, but the majority of their food comes from dead leavs and other debris.
