Why is School Structured the Way it Is?

COMMUNITY OF SCIENTISTS/LEARNERS

Before we get started with our course, let's do an activity that hopefully will put us in the right frame of mind!

  • Like I am learning!

Here is what you defined as a community of scientists as grade 9s!
Let's keep this vision for the rest of the term!

Respect and Trust, so everyone feels Safe

How about the 7 Cs?

And, if you look at the 7 Cs of learning, you will notice that each one of these things you came up with would fit perfectly into the concepts below:
  • Curiosity
  • Connection
  • Communication
  • Collaboration
  • Community, and of course,
  • Critical and Creative Thinking.

CONSEQUENCES OF BREACH

In order to maintain our Community of Learners vision, we need to watch out for behaviours that do not match the ones we want to see. For the good of our Commnity, when a behaviour that does not match the ones above is in place, the following consequences will apply:
1. Teacher warning; please change behaviour.
2. If  asked to move, student moves immediatelly like popped popcorn without arguments.
3. If student moves back when teacher is not looking, further consequences below.
4. Name on board instead of second warning, and
5. Parents will be notified if the name is still on the board by the end of class, and a plan will be put in place to assist the student in becoming a part of the Community

Usually emails are sent home every Friday. I love to write (you can probably tell) so please try not to misbehave too much otherwise your parents will receive a very descriptive booklet with pictures of your misbehaviour.

BONUS MISBEHAVIOUR -- For eggregious things such as destruction of the classroom's property, complete disregard for rules or other things, your punishment will be the first thing that comes to my mind.

It will be embarassing and weird. Ask previous classes for examples.

Let's all work together for a great term!
