Community of Scientists/Learners

Here is what you defined as a community of scientists as grade 11s!
Let's keep this vision for the rest of the term!
Looks like:
  • people wearing proper equipment
  • people being safe
  • diagrams, visuals, graphs
  • engaged and curious people
  • not bored people
  • people being helpful
  • groups working on experiments together
  • people being curious while working
  • people actively learning by taking notes
  • information videos
  • people reading
  • people enjoying science together
  • people trying new things together
  • new things being found every day
Sounds like:
  • a team
  • good explanations
  • people listening to others' points of view
  • people helping each other
  • different techniques and ways
  • good questions
  • people talking about their own goals or achievements
  • sounds of experiments, sizzling, etc.
  • talking about past experiments to help future ones (reflection)
  • people connecting with each other
  • people being clear and concise, not making things too difficult
  • writing noises
  • people looking at reactions
  • footsteps, chatting
I say things like:
  • asking good questions
  • talking about my goals
  • share what I have found on my research
  • giving people ideas
  • giving options
  • encouragement
  • brainstorm together
  • ask people about their prior experiment or research
  • theorizing with others about what might happen next
And, if you look at the 7 Cs of learning, you will notice that each one of these things you came up with would fit perfectly into the concepts below:
  • Curiosity
  • Connection
  • Communication
  • Collaboration
  • Community, and of course,
  • Critical and Creative Thinking.
In order to maintain our Community of Learners vision, we need to watch out for behaviours that do not match the ones we want to see. For the good of our Commnity, when a behaviour that does not match the ones above is in place, the following consequences will apply:
1. Teacher warning; please change behaviour
2. Name on board instead of second warning
3. Parents will be notified if the name is still on the board by the end of class, and a plan will be put in place to assist the student in becoming a part of the Community
Let's all work together for a great term!
