Nutrition

Dangerous experiment:

Why Counting Calories is not Enough

Imagine this: You decide to count calories, thinking you are becoming healthier. One day, you think -- "If I don't eat anything today, I can have a burger!"

The next day, you eat half a family-sized bag of chips -- that's about 600 calories, so you skip on your shrimp, veggies and rice paella recipe to account for that. But you can still have the rest of the calories, so you are doing fine.

And so on, and so forth.

What do you think is going to happen to your health, in the long run?
As it turns out, calories are not everything.

Only counting calories leaves people with malnutrition, muscle loss due to lack of proteins, energy crashes, and long-term health risks like heart disease and diabetes.

Junk food is high in fats, salt and sugars, and lacks essential nutrients, fiber, protein, and healthy fats, leaving you hungry and craving more.

Of course, we're not to blame for choosing the things we choose. Bright packaging, snazzy names and other branding tricks can make some foods look irresistible.

It's up to us to choose to make better choices, and reach out for healthier alternatives when eating. Think of what can satisfy your body, not just your mouth!

Many things are wrong with the way industry feeds the ever-growing world population. Besides the fact that many vegetables are gradually losing their nutritional value, meats also have a darker side due to the way big industries mess up everything. Let's check out the video below by my favourite Youtube channel!

The Research

This is where you make the topic of nutrition personalized!

Make a list of ten of your favourite foods; make sure they are things you eat all the time, or favourite snacks.

Then, grab an empty nutritional fact sheet and fill it out!
