SCIENCE 9 CAP PROJECT

Buckle your seatbelts, children of the corn!!!

This is not just a project, but an amazing competition between ALL FOUR CLASSES!!!

In this project, you will come up with a super interesting question that matters to you, and try to answer it using the scientific method. Then, you will create a Weebly site to showcase your findings. This includes:

1. Your question!

  • Craft a question that is relevant to you, as well as something that is achievable.
  • So, no questions about "How long can a person survive without oxygen" or "How long would it take me to crawl up Kilimanjaro".
  • To craft your question, use the worksheet provided! The three boxes below can help you figure out what you want to research.
Picture
Once you create a science question above, you can then modify it so that it will have more meaning to you; for instance, "Are old dogs able to learn new tricks" could become "Would I be able to teach my old dog a new trick in the next ten days?"

The point here is to transform your question into something that is recordable, measurable, and that you can photograph/video/make graphs of/etc.

2. Your background research!

  • Research your topic from different angles.
  • Does age on dogs affect intelligence? How smart is my dog breed? Etc Etc.
Picture

3. Your Hypothesis!

  • "I think my dog will start following me around more."

4. Your Experiment!

Keep track of everything. Numbers, times, amounts, photos, recordings, videos, everything is data.

5. Your Analysis!

Were you right on your hypothesis? What was wrong about it? Is there anything you can shift to get a result you are happy with, or perhaps you want to change your hypothesis and retest?

6. Share your Data!

You will put everything in a weebly website. This includes:
  • Your Question
  • Your Research (links?)
  • Your Hypothesis
  • Your Experiment
  • Your Analysis of Results
  • Your Conclusion

QUESTIONS FROM THE PAST

  • How is hydropower harvested from water?
  • When mixed with Menthos, which pop shoots higher?
  • How does the diet of a chicken affects its egg?
