Ethics, Humanity and the Modern World

It is impossible to deny the effect that humans have had on this Earth. Modern World history, geography and social studies are studied from an anthropocentric, or rather, a colonizer-centric  perspective.

These studies focus on how humans socialized and grew. How they invented things and used these things to make their lives easier. How they bent the Earth to fulfill their needs and how they disregarded the delicate balance that existed. How they exploited, enslaved and killed each other for land, for gold, for oil. They focus on human accomplishments from the perspective of a select group of cultures. An old saying still holds true: History is written by the winners.

Perhaps a much better way to study and think about humanity is to look not outside -- to the things that make us different, and fight with one another -- but inside.

To the things that makes us human.

So, what makes us human?

Humanity Studies Project

Please go to your binder and find an excerpt from the book Young Heroes.

You may need to read this in parts, as it is very dense and there are lots to digest.

Please read it carefully, highlighting parts that are interesting to you.

Please write down any questions you may have. Check with me about those.

Fill in all the spaces and answer all the questions found on the pages.

This will not be an easy read -- but it will hopefully bring insight to you.

The video mentioned in the excerpt can be found to the right.

It is a very powerful video.

If you want to know more about Nick Vujicic's story, there are many videos on Youtube about him.

Here is one of them:
