Surpresa de Uva (grape surprise)

With a little patience, you can make this treat whenever you want to.

Picture
Ingredients:

One can of condensed milk
One tablespoon of melted butter
A drop of green food colouring (or more, as green as you like)
About 40 green grapes, washed and dried
Fine granulated sugar for decorating
Paper cups or a platter, for placing them in

Cooking Instructions:

  • Take the grapes off the stems; wash them and dry them well, or leave them out to dry.
  • Put the condensed milk and the melted butter on a medium pot, at low heat.
  • With a wooden spoon, swirl the batter non-stop.This is particularly important when it starts to bubble.
  • Make sure it never reaches a boil; you should only see a few bubbles, so keep the heat low.
  • The batter is ready when you tilt the pan and the dough separates from the bottom.
  • This process may take 20-30 minutes.
  • Pour the batter on a well-buttered, large glass pyrex, and let it cool for a few hours.

Assembly:

  • Pour a thick layer of granulated sugar in a wide container.
  • Open your paper baking cups and lay them out on the counter.
  • Grab a teaspoon and a fork.
  • Butter your hands well.
  • With the teaspoon, take a small portion of dough (the size of half a grape) and place it on the palm of your hand.
  • Place a grape on top of the dough and squish it; roll the dough around the grape.
  • Once the grape is covered, place the treat on the sugar.
  • You will be able to roll about 4 treats before they start sticking to your hands. To avoid the grapes from sticking, check your hands after you roll each grape; if you see any piece of dough on them, scrape it off and apply more butter.
  • If you get a grape stuck, it's time to wash your hands completely and butter them again.
  • Keep placing the treats on the sugar, leaving the space of about a grape in between.
  • Repeat this process until you can't fit any more grapes on the sugar.
  • Using the fork, roll the treats on the sugar until they are completely covered.
  • Move the sugary treats to a platter or to the paper cups.

Enjoy!!!
