Tutorial 4 - Removing Backgrounds

Well, this is not really a tutorial, as much as it is the beginning of your first graded assignment.

To prepare for your assignment which will be introduced next week, you should do the following:



1. Duplicate the background layer of the image below.

2. Make the bottom layer locked and invisible.

3. Using masks, just like you learned on tutorial 1, remove the background from one of the photos below to isolate the dancers.


4. When you are done isolating the dancers on one layer, save your work.

Things to keep in mind for your first assignment:

  • Label all layers. Organization is very important.
  • You will need to use a minimum of two dancers.
  • Accuracy is important, so zoom in and make sure you did get the dancers completely from head to toe, and no hair, fingers or details are missing.

When you are done separating the dancers on the top layer, save your work, Thank you! Good luck! If you have completed this portion of your assignment and there is still extra time today, then you can work on one of your previous assignments.
